Shashi Kapoor is one such name who will be remembered not only with the people of his generation but even with the generation of today. One of the most soft-spoken and mastercraft actors of the Kapoor clan as well as of Bollywood passed away on 11.05.17 with Kidney ailments.
Shashi Kapoor, son of the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor who actually is regarded as the founder of Bollywood started acting at the age of 4 in the plays directed by his father. Immaculate acting skills and an effortless charm with a million dollar smile were some of the qualities which he had right from his childhood. It was his humble nature, grounded persona and pure artistry with acting which made him unique amongst other superstars of Bollywood.
The man who went on to act in over 150 Bollywood films was also one of the very few actors who has unfazed by the stardom. Shashi Kapoor once faced 8 consecutive flops but was hardly affected by it and so was he the real self and unfazed when he was at the peak of his stardom with blockbuster movies.
Shashi Kapoor who was born on March 12, 1938 in Calcutta achieved phenomenal success with memorable movies like Amar Akbar Anthony, Aag ,Aawara Dharmaputra, Waqt, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Roti Kapda Makaan, Suhaag, Trishul amongst many others. However, he surpassed all his fan following and superstardom with Deewar in 1975 with the megastar Amitabh Bacchhan. It was this movie which made him a mass favorite and especially his dialogue ‘Mere Paas Maa Hai’ which is still remembered even after 42yrs since the film released.
Shashi Kapoor wore many caps successfully right from an actor, director, producer and was married to Jennifer Kendal with whom he had a successful marriage. He had three kids in Sanjana Kapoor, Karan Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor who are carrying their father’s legacy forward. Sanjana Kapoor now successfully runs the iconic Prithvi theatre which is considered as the breeding ground of Bollywood to polish and hone your acting skills.
What’s more it was because of his graceful on and off screen persona, he was revered and highly admired by his peers of Bollywood including Amitabh who always held him in high regards. Even the actors of today’s generation relate the most with Shashi Kapoor out of all the legendary actors who are surviving in bollywood because of his boyish good looks, infectious energy, electrifying smile and a charm which could floor anyone in the world coupled with his warm hospitality and soft spokenness.
Bollywood has certainly lost one branch of the tree which was erected more than a century ago and it is certainly the end of an era and one big loss for the Kapoor clan who are considered the 1st family of bollywood.
