Breath. Balance. Belonging – Vile Parle’s Yogic Pulse
TownParle.in Yoga Day Special
On June 21st, the world bows in collective silence and strength to celebrate International Yoga Day—a tribute to one of India’s most profound gifts to humanity. Yoga is not just a practice, it is a path. A journey inward. A blueprint for balanced living.
In Vile Parle, a suburb steeped in culture and community, yoga is more than just exercise. It’s a way of life nurtured by generations, carried forward by passionate teachers, and embraced by seekers young and old.
To commemorate this day, TownParle.in brings you an intimate collection of reflections from four renowned yoga teachers from Vile Parle. Each shares their personal journey—how yoga entered their lives, how it transformed them, and why they believe it is more relevant than ever in today’s distracted, digital world.
These stories are not just narratives—they are invitations. To begin. To return. To breathe.

When I was first introduced to yoga, I felt this is something special, never learned before and yet adding so much value to life. I was hungry to learn and I have never looked back. Since 1988, Yoga continues to yield in my life the joy of learning, teaching, and transforming lives.
Our education does not teach us how to live life. We learn it by trial-and-error, by the set norms, or just live it as a given condition!
Yoga is harmony. We are naturally aligned to harmony. When you see that there is disharmony, stop reasoning, stop blaming, stop giving in! Just find the nearest Yoga facility and take charge of your life.
A child, a teenager, a higher education student, a working professional, a housewife, a self-made man… Yoga is for all. In today’s context where the world is turned towards too much consumption, is driven by the prompts coming from social media and other players, it is relevant to embrace yoga and stay sane and create the firewall of protection and the inner harmony that equips you to confront life.
Just begin. Be willing. Yoga can move you from wherever you are, gently towards who you are meant to be.

Yoga Offers Multiple Benefits
Swami Satyananda Saraswati says, “Yoga is not an ancient myth buried in oblivion, but it is the most valuable inheritance of the past, an essential need for today, and a culture for tomorrow.”
Yogic practices are helpful for all:
- Work-life balance
- Physical well-being
- Mental clarity and fitness
- Stress management
They improve resilience and enhance the ability to manage pressures in this fast-paced digital world.
Yoga offers Shatkarma, micro and macro circulation practices, asanas, pranayama, mudras, and bandhas. Yoga equips one to operate in harmony with the mind, body, and soul.
A major benefit of yoga is the strengthening of both the physical and mental systems, leading to balance in the nervous and endocrine systems. It fosters harmony in the HPO axis, promoting smooth functioning. Regular yoga practice leads to a free flow of energy and greater confidence in all areas of life.
In this century, yoga provides a real tool to combat social malaise, and to realize and connect with one’s true self.
Hatha Pradipika quotes: “One who practices yoga in all its aspects attains success in all areas of life, even if they are young, old, decrepit, diseased, or weak.” (1.64)

Yoga Teacher & Practitioner
Just as for many, Yoga often begins with a search for healing, for peace, or for a deeper connection with life, my journey as well began in the search for my physical well-being. What started at the level of the body gradually moved deeper, and in no time, I had developed a keen inclination towards Yogic philosophies.
As a teacher now, I strive to share what little I have learned over the past four to five years, as every posture, breath, and moment of mindfulness can help an individual become more balanced and aware. For me, teaching becomes a form of service, sowing the seeds of well-being within everyone. Yoga is limitless; while teaching and guiding others, my knowledge and understanding are also constantly renewed.
Today, in an age marked by stress, anxiety, distraction, and disconnection from our bodies, from nature, and from each other, Yoga offers a way back to balance. It teaches us to pause, breathe, and listen not just outwardly, but inwardly. Yoga is neither a luxury nor a fad—it represents a timeless discipline for living well. In the current fast-paced environment, it functions as both a refuge and a guide.

Equanimity is yog!
This simple yet profound definition of yog has inspired a yoga teacher like me to walk on this path. My name is Deepika Chalke. I have been working, teaching, and aspiring the journey of yoga for 15 plus years now. But nevertheless, it has been the same journey. The initial period of my journey was more physical-oriented like any other aspirant joining a yoga class for flexibility, balance, or how we can challenge our body. The intrinsic part of yog that is ‘Breath’ ‘Prana’ is neglected. How long can we keep on distorting our body? And how much? Definitely, we need the right guidance otherwise it is very easy to go off the track.
Gratefully, I found great masters and teachers who guided me on this path of yog. The foundation of my physical practice in yog comes from Iyengar Guruji’s methodology, and my spiritual journey got initiated by my Guruji Rishi Vasu. His guidance kept me going on the spiritual path fearlessly.
My goal is to inspire every aspirant to understand the true essence of yog. Yog is a practice that can unlock profound insights on a cellular level, enabling us to explore the mind at its deepest, subconscious layers. I urge yog practitioners not to view yog solely as a tool for physical fitness, physiological health, or mental wellness. Yog holds incredible potential beyond these aspects. Embrace this path with complete surrender and acceptance, and you will witness the miraculous unfold.
