ICSE results 2013 : Vile Parle girl, two others from Pune top ICSE exam
The Class 10 Indian Certificate of Secondary Exams (ICSE) results brought cheer to three households in Maharashtra, one from Mumbai and two from Pune. Girls from the three families scored 98.4% in their ICSE board exams, results of which were announced on Friday.
Manasi Arora, 15, of Vile Parle’s Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School emerged as a joint all-India topper. She shared the rank with Anika Agrawal, 15, and Simran Khanuja, 15, from St Mary’s School in Pune.
Arora bagged perfect scores (100 out of 100) in mathematics, social studies and commercial application. With an interest in number crunching, Arora wants to take up commerce to become a chartered accountant like her parents. “I studied by setting targets and did not count the hours put in. I balanced my studies while pursuing other interests, especially dancing and singing,” said Arora.
At Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School in Vile Parle (W), 110 students out of a class of 285 scored about 90%. “Maths helped boost scores of many students with a huge number of students scoring 100 in the subject. The total number of 90% and above scorers is almost similar to last year, if not more,” said Girija Mohan, principal of the school.
This year, 1,40,878 students appeared for the exam from 1,762 schools across India. Their percentages were calculated based on the marks scored in English and best four subjects. For the last four years, the topper has been from Mumbai, except for in 2011, when the board did not announce a topper.
There was more good news for the city, as the ISC topper also emerged from the same locality of Vile Parle. Suchita Uppal from Jamnabai Narsee School, Vile Parle, achieved 98.25, marking her as the topper in the exams.
