WR gets its first escalator at Vile Parle

In a swift move, Western Railway (WR) commuters got their first ever escalator on the eastern side of the Vile Parle station. The escalator is worth `60 lakh, and is Mumbai’s first escalator in a suburban area following the Central Railway’s escalator at Thane station.Local MLA Krishna Hegde inaugurated it with his supporters in a low-profile ceremony.Mr Hegde, who was personally following the construction, said, “This would be a positive surprise to lakhs of commuters.

The Vile Parle escalator is located on the north-end of platform 2 and 3.
WR said the facility will run on a trial basis to ensure there are no glitches in future. Vile Parle station sees a footfall of three-four lakh commuters every day; the escalator will be able to carry 9,000 commuters per hour. WR authorities have planned similar facilities at Borivli, Dadar and Andheri stations in this financial year.
