Dental Implants After 80? Yes — They Can Change Your Life…

By Pethe Dental Care
Recently, a 75-year-old lady walked into our clinic with a smile and a confession —”Doctor, I’m jealous of my brother.”
When I asked her why, she laughed and said,”Because he can eat everything — from crunchy snacks to tender meats — and he’s so healthy and happy. I know it’s because you placed implants for him years ago!”
Her brother, now almost 85, is ten years older than her. Five years ago, when he was 80, we placed six implants in his lower jaw and five in his upper jaw, restoring his full set of 28 teeth. Since then, he’s been enjoying every meal without hesitation and staying fit. Seeing his transformation inspired her — she too wanted to enjoy her food, chew properly, and live without dietary restrictions. What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium posts placed into the jawbone. They act like artificial roots and support lifelike crowns, bridges, or dentures — restoring your smile and chewing ability naturally and permanently.
Why Implants Are Better Than Other Replacements
No Damage to Healthy Teeth – Traditional crowns and bridges require grinding down adjacent teeth, which can weaken them over time. Implants keep other teeth untouched.
More Comfortable Than Dentures – Removable dentures may slip, hurt, or affect chewing and speech. Implants are fixed, stable, and feel like natural teeth.
Preserve Bone & Facial Structure – Implants prevent jawbone shrinkage, helping maintain your facial appearance.
Long-Term Investment – With proper care, implants can last a lifetime. Why Today’s Implants Are More Precise Than Ever
At Pethe Dental Care, we use the latest dental technologies to ensure accuracy, safety, and comfort:
Dental CT Scans allow us to evaluate bone quality and density in 3D.
Digital Planning helps us select the ideal position, angle, and depth of each implant.
Navigation Technique — which we proudly performed for the first time in India — allows us to simulate the surgery on a CT scan first, and then accurately replicate it in the mouth, like copy-paste. This means:
No long cuts
No flap reflection
No stitches
Faster healing with minimal discomfortProsthesis-Driven Planning — We design the final crown or bridge before placing implants, ensuring perfect function and esthetics.
When Can You Get Your New Teeth?
For single implants, the crown is usually placed after about 3 months, once the bone securely integrates.
For multiple implants, when we achieve cross-arch stabilization, we can often provide a temporary bridge immediately, so the patient can eat soft food the same day.
After 3 months, once healing is complete, we replace the temporary with a final, permanent prosthesis that looks and feels like natural teeth.
It’s Not Just for the Elderly – Implants Help Young Adults Too
Dental implants aren’t just for seniors. Many young adults with congenitally missing teeth — meaning certain permanent teeth never formed — now have a long-term solution.
In the past, the only options were to shift other teeth using braces or close the gaps with bridges. But now, once a child’s facial growth is complete, we can safely place implants in those missing spaces.
This gives them not only:
A natural, confident smile
Perfect function
Long-term dental stabilitybut also self-esteem and confidence at a young age — something no removable denture or compromise solution could fully provide.
Age Is No Barrier
Whether you’re 18 or 85, implants can restore what was lost or never formed — safely and beautifully — provided your jaw has enough bone and your gums are healthy. We assess every patient individually and plan accordingly.
The Future: Robotics in Dental Implant Surgery
Technology is evolving rapidly — and in the near future, robots will assist in performing dental implant surgeries with unmatched precision. In countries like China and the USA, robotic systems are already being used to place implants with digital guidance, under the supervision of skilled dental surgeons.
These robots follow the doctor’s treatment plan and execute it with sub-millimeter accuracy — minimizing surgical trauma and improving results. The surgeon remains in full control, guiding the robot as it performs with extreme precision.
This robot-assisted future is fast approaching — and at Pethe Dental Care, we’re already aligned with this advancement through techniques like navigation-guided implant surgery.
