Parineeti Chopra to play the role of Saina Nehwal in the biopic “Saina’
The first teaser poster of the biopic of ace badminton player Saina Nehwal ‘Saina’ was released on 2nd March. The film is based on a true story of ace badminton player saina nehwal. The film is produced by T-series Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar & Front Foot pictures Sujay Jairaj & Rasesh Shah. Film is written & directed by Amol Gupte. The ace badminton player character will be played by Parineeti Chopra and apart from that Eshan Naqvi and Manav Kaul will also be seen in the film. Eshan Naqvi plays the role of Coach Pulela Gopichand. The film will be released on 26th March 2021.
Saina Nehwal is a former world no 1 badminton player who has won over 24 international titles, which includes eleven super-series titles. In the year 2015 she was able to attain World no 1 ranking, thereby becoming the only female player from India after Prakash Padukone to achieve this feat. She has won Bronze medal at 2012 Olympics held in London. She was conferred by the nation`s top sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2009-2010, Arjuna Award (2009), Padma Shri (2010). In 2016 she was conferred by the Padma Bhushan – India`s third highest civilian award.

The promo also nails the emotional aspect that seems to work for all sports biopics. In her narration, Chopra can be heard saying that she chose a ‘talwar’ over ‘choolah’ and it is bound to resonate with aspiring girls who like to dream big. It is even poised to trace Nehwal’s journey to the top after fighting hurdles and who doesn’t love that story?
Initially Shraddha Kapoor was shortlisted for this role but due to the speculation of that the biopic will have an OTT release, she chose to opt out of the role almost a year back since then the film has gone through many ups and downs and is finally out for release.
